Boutique intellectual property law firm specializing in patent law, is currently seeking a Docketing Clerk to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of U.S. and foreign patent prosecution processes and will be highly proficient in CPI docketing software. This role is fully remote; however, the candidate must be based in California due to jurisdictional and business requirements.
Docketing Clerk Responsibilities include:
- Accurately docket all incoming and outgoing U.S. and foreign patent correspondence in CPI
- Maintain and update patent records with critical deadlines, filing dates, and status changes
- Monitor and ensure timely execution of docketed tasks, coordinating with attorneys and paralegals as needed
- Generate docket reports and assist with internal audits to maintain data integrity
- Review official correspondence from the USPTO, WIPO, and foreign associates to ensure proper docketing
- Assist with file maintenance, organization, and data entry in alignment with firm procedures
- Serve as a liaison between attorneys, paralegals, and other administrative staff to ensure docket compliance
Ideal Docketing Clerk candidates should have:
- Minimum 2 years of patent docketing experience in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Proficiency in CPI docketing software is required
- Strong knowledge of U.S. and international patent prosecution timelines and terminology
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage high volumes of data with accuracy
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote setting
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be based in California
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a boutique or IP-focused law firm environment
- Familiarity with other IP management tools is a plus
